Inspired by the origami toy “tatebanko” that was popular during Japan's Edo period, DAS depicts, reconstructs, and imagines the everyday spaces and ordinary residences of Tokamachi City, one of the main venues of the Triennale, in the form of origami drawings. “A Walk in the Town” is a response to the exhibition theme at Museum on Echigo-Tsumari (MonET), where the piece is showcased: “87-Day Square Adventure with Captain MonET.” It seeks to discover daily “miracles” in ordinary neighborhoods, proving that an aimless walk through the town is also a true adventure. “A Walk in the Town” is not only a set of drawings but also a paper model and a large mural.
